In the last Direct from Eholo Collabs, we had the honor of having Alicia Gonzalez, a multifaceted psychologist who has conquered the professional field as a psychologist, writer, communicator, speaker and entrepreneur. Alicia not only shared her inspiring career, but also the real challenges of entrepreneurship in the world of psychology. These are some of the most important facts and tips that Alicia shared.
How did Alicia get started in the world of psychology?
Alicia revealed to us that her choice for this profession stemmed from her passion for understanding how people work and how we relate to each other. Although she valued other options such as law or even becoming a hairdresser, psychology became her vocation from the moment she discovered its multiple possibilities. In his own words: “I don't see myself and will not see myself in anything else. Psychology fills me up because it allows me to explore, learn and help others.”
Entrepreneurship out of necessity, not choice
One of the most sincere moments of the talk was when Alicia explained how she began her journey as an entrepreneur. Contrary to the romantic image that is sometimes projected, Alicia began her venture not out of an idealized dream, but out of necessity. After a bad work experience and faced the challenge of combining her professional life with motherhood, she decided to bet on herself:
“It wasn't because my life's dream was to create a company, but because I wanted to survive. My goal was to move my family forward, and entrepreneurship was the solution.”
This testimony reminds us that entrepreneurship does not always arise from a planned desire, but that, at times, it is the answer to difficult circumstances.
The challenges of entrepreneurship in psychology
During the conversation, Alicia highlighted the most important challenges she faced as an entrepreneur, leaving valuable lessons for those who wish to follow this path:
- The Emotional Roller Coaster of Entrepreneurship:
Alicia emphasized how demanding it is to manage your own company in the field of psychology, especially when it depends on social networks: “The time you don't generate content, demand decreases. It's exhausting to constantly be at the foot of the canyon.” - The lack of business training in psychology:
“As a psychologist, nobody teaches you how to be an entrepreneur,” Alicia said. Learning to manage a business was a process of trial and error, accompanied by the support of generous female colleagues who shared their knowledge. - Emotional attachment to the company:
For Alicia, her company is not just a business, but her “baby”. This can make it more difficult to manage professional relationships and face disappointment: “As a psychologist, you become attached not only to your company, but also to the people with whom you collaborate. Sometimes it's nice, but other times it's complicated.”
Hard times and learning
Alicia didn't hesitate to be transparent about the most difficult moments in her career. He spoke of the loneliness that sometimes accompanies the entrepreneur and the mistakes that are part of the journey. However, she also highlighted how these challenges have made her stronger and have led her to value the support of her colleagues.
“The most important thing is to surround yourself with generous people who share your vision and who help you grow. Success isn't built alone.”
A message for future entrepreneurs
Alicia closed the live with an encouraging but realistic message: entrepreneurship in psychology is possible, but it requires effort, dedication and a great capacity for learning. He also recalled the importance of not idealizing this path and of being aware that not everything is rosy. However, if you find your purpose and surround yourself with a good team, the personal and professional rewards can be enormous.
